Cut your chain to the desired length and add a clasp to the end using a jump ring.
We used four lengths of six strand embroidery floss in two colors. Each piece was cut in lengths of 50 inches. Tie two of the colors together at one end. Place a big eye needle on the end of each color group.
Thread the burgundy section through the first link of your chain from the back side.
Pull the floss so that the knot is snug against the chain.
Move the burgundy floss to the right side and cross the green section over the top of the burgundy section.
Thread the green section through the same chain link from the back.
Pull the floss snug.
Move the green section to the right and cross the burgundy section over the top of the green section.
Thread the burgundy section through the next link of chain from the back.
Move the burgundy thread to the right, cross the green section over the top and thread the floss through the same link of chain from the back.
Move the burgundy thread to the right, cross the green section over the top and thread the floss through the same link of chain from the back.
At this point, the braided pattern will begin to appear. You will need to spend some time smoothing the floss so that the braid turns out smooth and even.
Continue braiding using these steps until you reach the end of the chain. Remember while braiding that both colors of floss goes through each link.
To secure the ends, tie the two color sections together in a knot like we did in the beginning. Trim both ends of the floss so they match in length. If you want ideas for adding this braided design to another braided element, check out our Chic Chick Bracelet.
