Old standard hide-a-beds were pretty common for RVers not long ago. Unfortunately, 'not long ago' can feel like another time period when it comes to how far furniture has come. Hidden beds in sofas used to be bulky, uncomfortable, and hard to store. It was a nice idea to be able to pull out an extra bed for passengers, but because it was such a chore, people quickly grew tired of it.

First, you don't have to worry about a bulky mattress. Mattresses can be hard to store in a sofa, no matter how easy any given hide-a-bed claims to be.
