Multisensory Monday: Pseudowords for End of Layer Review

Are you looking for a fun way to practice and review concepts learned in a layer? Here is an idea that will engage your student and help reinforce concepts. 

Materials:

• Multisensory phonics cards representing a concept for that layer (for example, -s, -zz, -ang, e, y, -tch, -dge, etc. for Layer Two)
• Magnets
• Dry erase board
• Pointer

Make it Multisensory:

1. Using the magnets, place each card randomly on the dry erase board. Have a list of pseudowords prepared (can be taken from the Student Fluency Books or a Pre-Assessment) representing each concept. 
2. Read a pseudoword to your student.
3. Now, have your student look at the board and, using the pointer, point to the correct card that represents the concept or spelling rule. 
4. Next, have your student pound, tap, and write the pseudoword. 
5. Lastly, have your student explain the concept or rule in their own words.

Optional Variation:

If your student was crafty throughout the layer and you have saved their multisensory crafts (Sammy Loves Fuzzy Zebras, Fly or Chameleon page for y, etc.) Display their concept crafts on the board instead of the cards and play the same way. It will remind them of the concept/rule, and they love seeing all the crafts they’ve made!
